liaison with seaborne invading forces. This was mentioned in paragraph 9 of the despatch at (and paragraph 5 of the telegram at (2) summarising the despatch, but has not hitherto been treated as a separate issue. The Admiralty, however, would like it to be accepted in principle now, even though they think that it would be premature to make any appointments. Their view is that the officer appointed for this liaison work need not necessarily be a Naval Officer, but The he will probably require a Naval
